Working under the direction of the Marketing Communications Manager, the Senior Marketing Associate is responsible for creating, coordinating, and managing successful marketing and promotional campaigns for AMC lodging destinations, educational programs, merchandising and publishing programs. The Senior Marketing Associate is responsible for managing the production and on-time delivery of print collateral, email campaigns, trade show materials, advertising and Web marketing. This full-time position is based in AMC’s Boston headquarters.
Responsibilities - Develop annual marketing plan for education, book publishing, merchandising, and volunteer programs with assistance from the Marketing Communications Manager
- Assist with the development and tracking of marketing communications budget
- Coordinate marketing collateral development, including vendor selection, copywriting, hiring of freelance designers, printing, proofing, delivery, inventory control, distribution, cost analyses, and return on investment for AMC seasonal campaigns and programs
- Manage monthly print and Web advertising campaigns for AMC programs, including scheduling ad placements, copywriting, design, internal review, proofing, budgeting, and return on investment tracking
- Execute bi-monthly email marketing campaigns for AMC programs, including writing and design of emails, conversion tracking, and return on investment
- Develop promotional materials and plan speaker events in support of spring and fall book lists
- Serve as marketing liaison with Volunteer Managed Facilities and our book and journal distributors
- Collaborate with merchandising manager in planning and executing promotional programs in support of retail merchandising and e-commerce goals
- Assist with the development of trade show materials in support of AMC programs
- Assist with the development, execution and measurement of a search engine optimization strategy for targeted programs
- Maintain individual program Web site pages on www.outdoors.org through use of internal content management system
- Coordinate and attend events, including AMC presence at industry trade shows and speaking events for AMC books authors
- Conduct market research in support of marketing/branding efforts as needed
- Periodic travel to AMC business offices and facilities in New Hampshire and Maine required
- Other duties as assigned.
Employment Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in business or marketing with 2-4 years of related marketing communications experience
- Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, and File Maker Pro a plus
- Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills and confidence working with authors, colleagues, and vendors
- Demonstrated skill writing promotional copy and understanding of the creative/design process
- Experience in hospitality marketing preferred
- Experience with online marketing and ecommerce preferred
- Experience creating and analyzing budgets, schedules, and tracking reports
- Ability to travel to meetings and events (up to 10% of schedule)
- Interest in hiking, paddling, skiing desirable
- Passion for the nonprofit mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club
- Physical abilities required: Work is performed mostly in a standard office setting, requiring abilities to climb stairs, walk, stand and sit and operate office equipment.
