AMC Outdoors is the membership magazine of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), America's oldest outdoor recreation and conservation organization. We publish 10 issues per year. With over 90,000 members in 12 chapters throughout the Northeast, the AMC provides outdoor recreation and educational opportunities, as well as conservation information and advocacy in the Appalachian region.
Responsibilities:
- As an AMC Outdoors intern you will be introduced to advertising sales and magazine production. You will learn how to prospect for advertisers, service advertising accounts, organize promotions, market special events, and much more. Other responsibilities include client correspondence and market research.
- Some typical office duties will also be expected of you, including photocopying, faxing, data entry, filing and helping out with mailings. We want you to get as much out of this internship as possible, so we will try to minimize time spent on these tasks. However it is important to learn the basics of working in an office environment and these are valuable and marketable skills you will learn here.
- Applicants should be self-starters, ambitious, and organized. Ability to work within production deadlines is essential. Those who ask questions and pursue projects of interest will find the position most rewarding. Of course, you must be dependable and responsible, arriving as scheduled and on time.

- AMC Outdoors internships are unpaid, but interns can take AMC workshops free of charge. Not only will you learn about magazine advertising and production, but you will also have the chance to learn backpacking, camping, fly-fishing, rock-climbing, white water kayaking, and much more! Also, some schools give credit for this internship-- please see your advisor for information.
- AMC Outdoors internships could also lead to a full-time paid position when positions become available.
