YOP makes the outdoors accessible and meaningful to at-risk and urban youth and serves youth workers and youth throughout the Greater Boston area by offering training, trip planning assistance, reduced rates at AMC facilities, and use of outdoor equipment.
Join the AMC's YOP team and learn skills that will make you a valued employee in a wide variety of outdoor, youth, and education-related careers. Internships are offered throughout the year. You'll have a chance to learn a bit about almost every part of running an outdoor program for urban youth workers and their kids.
The YOP Intern will operate from our facility at 5 Joy St., Boston (Beacon Hill) or our facility in the Delaware Water Gap in Blairstown, N.J. Projects vary depending on experience and interest but could involve developing curriculum, providing trip planning support, researching and evaluating program effectiveness, working in our equipment room, writing and editing newsletters and other program materials, conducting outreach, record keeping and analysis, helping youth groups with outdoor trips, and coordinating logistics for workshops and trainings.

Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills and creativity.
- Strong writing skills.
- Dependable and responsible nature.
- Familiarity with outdoor recreational opportunities in the Boston or New York City area, preferable.
- Understanding of youth development and/or youth serving agencies, preferable.
- A familiarity with outdoor education programming, helpful.
- Knowledge of outdoor education and youth development fields, helpful.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently at times.
- Prompt self-starter.
- Eagerness to learn.
- Sense of humor.
- Complete commitment to getting the most out of this fantastic experience — a must!
