Assistant North Country Trails Volunteer Coordinator
 

The Assistant North Country Trails Volunteer Coordinator Intern assists in the development, coordination, and registration of  AMC's Adopt-A-Trail program, AT Corridor Monitor Program, Alpine Stewardship Program, and AMC's  Volunteer Vacations in the White Mountains, NH, Baxter State Park, ME, and Acadia National Park, ME. (S)he works closely with other staff and volunteers to maintain safe and successful volunteer opportunities in the North Country. The AMC depends on this self-motivated, skilled individual to represent our organization and ensure an enjoyable and educational mountain experience for each AMC Volunteer. 

This Internship is based out of AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, Gorham, NH

Details
  • The standard work schedule for this internship position involves 40 hours per week, 5 days on and 2 days off
  • Internship available for spring semesters, summer season, and fall semesters
  • Room and board is provided
  • Bonus provided for successful completion of Internship
  • Accepting applications year round  

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a contact for volunteer registrations for all AMC Volunteer Trail Crew Programs
  • Communicate by phone, postal mail, and e-mail with all active AMC Trails Volunteers
  • Assist in the on-site promotion of programs and activities
  • Assist with the hiring of summer seasonal Trail Crew Leaders for AMC's Volunteer Vacations in teh White Mountains (spring only)
  • Assist supervisor with administrative duties including coordinating groups, data entry, risk management, program liability, planning staff and volunteer trainings, and preparing program materials
  • Assist in some trails related field instruction
  • Offer logistical support for backcountry Volunteer Vacations as needed, including overnights in the backcountry as needed
  • Plan and develop a promotional packet for all AMC Volunteer Trail Opportunities
  •   Independent projects are encouraged

Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to the goals of the organization; Review our web site www.outdoors.org/volunteer for information on the organization and variety of volunteer programs.
  • Exemplary communication skills, attention to detail, organizational ability, some experience with outdoor programming, flexibility to handle multiple tasks in different areas at once.
  • Practical academic background or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: Environmental Education, Program Administration, Parks and Recreation Management, or related fields.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
  • Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification is desirable
  • Familiarity with the northeastern US desirable
