The Appalachian Mountain Club Department of Volunteer Relations is seeking an intern for the summer of 2007 to assist with updating and improving the content and appearance of our departmental web pages, to coordinate with volunteers working on regional trails projects, to support planning and development of AMC’s Annual Meeting, and to work with volunteers in AMC’s chapters and camps. Successful candidates will have excellent communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and enjoy working with people. There are opportunities for some regional travel and training. This full-time internship reports to staff appropriate to the task at hand including the Director of Volunteer Relations, the Travel Programs Coordinator, and the Volunteer Programs Assistant.
The quick paced environment of the Volunteer Relations Department supports the efforts of AMC’s volunteers both in chapters and volunteer managed camps throughout AMC’s region from Maine to Virginia. This department liaises between AMC volunteers and staff ensuring that our efforts highlight the unique strengths of each community in support of the club’s mission and Vision for 2010. The Volunteer Relations Department includes four staff focused on camps, travel programs, and chapter issues advising on topics including conservation, communications, leadership, risk management, good financial practices, welcoming new members, trail work, and training programs.
While the internship is unpaid, this opportunity offers unique involvement in the volunteer community of the AMC, its management, and organization. In addition, the Volunteer Relations Department will offer a monthly T pass, a voucher for staying at AMC facilities, and possible training in an area of interest to the intern.
