AMC Front Desk Volunteers, Boston, MA

Front Desk volunteers fulfill the essential functions of responding to inquiries from the public and welcoming and assisting visitors at AMC’s Joy Street offices on Beacon Hill in Boston, MA. In addition to performing various administrative tasks in support of AMC’s mission, volunteers have the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of people on a daily basis, from AMC staff and chapter volunteers to hikers looking for information about how to plan an adventure in the mountains. We are always looking for volunteers who have a love of the AMC, enjoy interacting with new people, and are comfortable in an office setting.

Time Commitment

  • Minimum of 8 hours per week (4, 2-hour shifts any day Monday – Friday)
  • One year commitment to volunteer at Joy Street.

Responsibilities

  • Disseminate AMC information to members and the public including information pertaining to AMC membership, facilities, programs, chapters, and departments.
  • Manage traffic through the front door of Joy Street offices including visitors, retail customers, current and potential members, professional guests, and deliveries.
  • Answer phone calls on a multi-line telephone console with accuracy and enthusiasm relating to all projects of the club and respond to voice-mail messages.
  • Operate the cash register to make sales in the book store.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with public, in person and over the phone.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn the scope of the activities, programs, facilities, and opportunities with AMC
  • Familiarity with the AMC and its programs strongly preferred.
  • Office and/or retail experience preferred.
