Donations

Books and Periodicals

The Library accepts donations of books and periodicals at the Librarian’s discretion.  Materials should be on the subjects of mountains, conservation, outdoor recreation, or history in the Appalachian Mountain Region.  If you would like to donate books or periodicals, please contact the Librarian and have a prepared list of the titles you would like to donate. 

Documents, Photographs and Artifacts

Donations of documents, photographic works and artifacts relating directly to the history of the Appalachian Mountain Club are appreciated.  The Library is particularly interested in items related to the Club's history, including photos, slides, albums, scrapbooks, and other memorabilia.

Volunteering and Support

Numerous opportunities are available for volunteering in the AMC Library and Archives at the AMC Headquarters in Boston.  Organizing files, data entry, research and general collections management and preservation tasks are a few of the essential activities for which extra hands are needed!  Contact the Librarian for details.

Rights and Reproductions, Photocopies of Materials and Associated Fees

Image Reproductions and Licensing, for Publications and Personal Use

• The Appalachian Mountain Club Library and Archives offers two options for obtaining copies of images:
• • Copy prints may be purchased for personal use
  • Digital files may be licensed for publication. Delivery, use and policy differ for each option. Please see below for details.
• By submitting an order to the AMC Library and Archives, you agree, on behalf of yourself individually, to the following terms and conditions. By submitting an order for use of an image by an organization, you are representing that you are authorized to enter into this Agreement on behalf of the institution. This agreement places legally binding limits on how you may  use the image, please read them carefully before submitting an order.
• Copy prints or digital files may be obtained by contacting the Librarian. You must state your intended use before the order will be processed. Anyone submitting an order must be 18 years of age or older.
• If you purchase a copy print, upon receipt of payment in full, you will be entitled to possession of a single print copy only. The print copy will be delivered through the U.S. mail in four to six weeks. Purchase of a copy print does not carry with it the right to publish or to make a reproduction in any format or medium. Only electronic copies are available for publication. The following fees apply:

• All orders require that you state your intended use prior to completion of your order. Your use of the image is restricted to the purposes specified in a written contract draw up between you and the Librarian and the other conditions set forth below. Please contact us if you have any questions.
• If you license a digital file, upon receipt of payment in full, you will be granted a non-exclusive, one-time license to use the image in a single publication in one medium only, with no other rights. Please see the "USE" section of this Agreement, below.  The following fees apply:

Images are provided "as is". The AMC Library and Archives makes no warranties, express or implied, as to any image. The AMC Library and Archives specifically disclaimes any and all implied warranties, including without limitation any implied warranties of merchantability. fitness for a particular purpose, title or noninfringement of third party rights.

• All sales are final. Neither prints nor electronic files may be returned for refund or credit.
• If your order is defective or damaged please email us at amclibrary@outdoors.org.
• Please contact the AMC Library and Archives if you need additional information about the image you plan to obtain. Information regarding the organization that contributed the document may be found with the cataloging information for each image.

Photocopies

• Photocopies of Library and Archives materials may be obtained for $.25 per page.
• Photocopied items may be mailed for a flat fee of $1.00
