Directions to the AMC's Southeast New England Regional Trails Office

The AMC's Southeast New England Regional Trails Office is located in The Nature Conservancy's Tatkon House in Sheffield, MA.

From points east:

• Take the Mass Pike to Exit 2.
• Turn left off the ramp on to Route 20 and then turn right on to Route 102.
• Follow this and take a left on to Route 7 South
• Follow Route 7 through the center of Sheffield and turn right onto Silver St.
• Proceed on Silver Street approximately 2.3 miles and turn right on LeGeyt Rd. (dirt).
• Follow this to the Tatkon House and park in the parking lot on the right.

From points south:

• Take the Taconic Parkway to the exit for Poughkeepsie/Millbrook (Rt. 44).
• Follow Rt. 44 East for about 2 miles, go up a hill, and take a left just after the USDA Service Center on the left, onto Rt. 44-A.
• Follow 44-A until it joins up again with 44 at the intersection with the big stone gatehouse on the left - at that intersection, you'll get automatically joined up again with 44 East by simply continuing straight.
• Follow 44 East approx 10 miles to Amenia, then another 10 miles to Millerton.
• Pass through Millerton on 44 East, on to Lakeville, CT, and then into Salisbury. When you reach the center of Salisbury, look for Rt. 41 forking off to the left just before the White Hart Inn.
• Take 41 North at that fork and travel about 5 miles.
• When you see "Options Institute" on the left and "Son-Rise" center on the right, you are just past the CT/MA border. Go approximately 1 mile and look for the first road on the right: Kelsey Road, a dirt road about 2/10 of a mile past a dilapidated red barn. (If you pass by a Race Brook Lodge on your left, you've gone too far.)
• Turn right on Kelsey Road and follow it across a wetland, up a hill through a residential area, and eventually across another dirt road. Continue straight through that intersection; soon you will cross a small bridge, after which you will come to a fork in the road.
• At this fork (with an old blue house in front of you and a big renovated barn to your left), go left.
• You will come to another fork almost immediately – again, go left.
• Continue on this path until you come to a third fork in the woods – at this fork, you need to go right, up the higher road.
• After this third fork, you will then encounter some sharp turns, and a road will merge into the one you are on. When you emerge from the curves in the woods, you will bear right at a final fork (somewhat sharper than the others) onto on LeGeyt Road.
• Follow this to the Tatkon House and park in the parking lot on the right.

From points west:

• From I-90, take exit for Canaan, NY.
• Off the exit ramp, take immediate right to go south on Rte. 22 to Hillsdale.
• In Hillsdale, go left (East) on Rte. 23 toward Egremont.
• Just before the village of Egremont, go right (South) onto Rte. 41. This intersection has a flashing yellow light. Follow Rte. 41 South for approximately 8 miles.
• You will want to take the 3rd left on this road, onto Kelsey Rd., which is dirt. (If you pass by “Option Institute” or the CT state line, you’ve gone about 1 mile too far.)
• Kelsey will cross over one dirt road, then cross a small bridge, and fork: take a left at the fork, following the road that curves around a big barn on the left.
• At the next immediate fork, go left again.
• After a short distance, there will be another fork: go right up the hill. There will be a long, sharp curve and another road will feed in from the left.
• Just after this curve, look for Tatkon House on the left, after a corn field.
