A feature appeared in the magazine highlighting six ways to visit New England. The feature included a section on hiking in the White Mountains and photographs of Greenleaf, Zealand, and Lakes of Clouds huts.



AMC destinations get national attention

New Hampshire's White Mountains were recommended by the magazine as a great place for a weekend hike. The article, "Where to Go," recognized the AMC, the visitor information services provided at the Crawford Depot and Macomber Family Information Center, the Nauman Tentsite that the club manages, and www.outdoors.org.



AMC's lodging receives honors

The AMC's huts were a featured destination in an article titled "Finding Adventure in All the Right Places: Bunking Down in the Clouds," while Pinkham Notch Visitor Center and Joe Dodge Lodge received the prestigious "Editors' Pick" designation.



High mountain huts get Frommer's seal of approval

"Happy Trails," an online article taken from Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel (newsletter), described the experience of staying at the AMC's huts while hiking along the Appalachian Trail. The article covered accommodations along the trail and touted the cozy comfort of the AMC's huts. The article also included information about the cost of a stay at the huts and the amenities available.



AMC offers mud season hiking advice

The feature article entitled "Note to Hikers: Prepare for Mud" in this Massachusetts newspaper described important things to consider when planning a spring hiking trip. The article highlighted AMC Trails and Riverways Stewardship Director Heather Clish who encouraged those who choose to hike in the spring to walk through muddy spots on the trail instead of going around them. Clish indicated that circumventing muddy spots degrades trail edges. Clish also stressed the importance of planning, dressing and preparing for hikes properly.

Snowboarders were introduced to avalanche awareness and safety, snow science, winter camping and backcountry snowboarding in a syndicated article, "Snowboarders Receive a Mountain Lesson." Snowboarders took on challenging runs and learned new skills on Mount Washington, in addition to personal safety tips atop the infamous mountain.



AMC volunteer trail crews highlighted

In New Hampshire, an article entitled "Bitten by the Hiking Bug?" highlighted the AMC's volunteer trail crews and the experience of participating in a trail crew. The article also mentioned National Trails Day, which is slated for Sat., June 7.

Writer Vicki Harbin penned a lengthy article about the AMC's huts. In her article, which appeared on msnbc.com, she focused on enjoyable, affordable vacations in the AMC's White Mountain huts. She also mentioned the environmentally sensitive elements of the famous high mountain huts.



AMC expert talks about trails and mud

AMC Trails and Riverways Stewardship Director Heather Clish spoke about the upcoming mud season in an article, "Down and Dirty." Clish encouraged hikers to walk through mud on trails instead of around it to prevent trail erosion. The Boston Chapter and the upcoming events celebrating National Trails Day were also highlighted in the article.
