Newscaster Steve Minich took viewers out on the trail to show the work being performed by trail crews in preparation for the opening of the eastern segment of the Grafton Loop Trail in western Maine. This new trail will provide an alternative to the heavily used Appalachian Trail in this scenic section of Maine.

The AMC's work in air quality research was featured in the "RSN Outdoor Update" segment on CNN Headline News in the Boston, Portland (Maine), Denver, Chicago, and Providence metro markets. The piece pointed out researchers' concerns about urban air pollutants carried on prevailing winds to backcountry areas, diminishing air quality as well as scenic views. The piece also highlighted the interactive air-quality kiosk at the AMC's Pinkham Notch Visitor Center.

Kelly Ault and Anna Downes of Businesses for the Northern Forest, an AMC/Northern Forest Alliance collaborative, were appeared in a variety of state and national media. The coverage described a new, full-color book that highlights six different heritage and cultural tours in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. The publication of the 27th edition of the AMC's White Mountain Guide was the subject of this interview with AMC Public Affairs Director Rob Burbank and White Birch Books store owner Donna Urey. The discussion centered on the history of the well-respected guidebook, known to many as "the hikers' bible." White Birch Books hosted a book signing celebration the following evening with guidebook co-author Steven D. Smith and AMC cartographer Larry Garland.
Keeping cool on a summer hike

The Herald's Sports section carried an article with some recommendations about hiking when the weather is hot. The AMC encouraged hikers to drink lots of water, eat salty foods, and wear sunscreen and a hat. The article also encouraged hikers to take it easy when the weather is warm to avoid heat exhaustion.
