The two-year grant from the William Penn Foundation will fund efforts to protect more than one-half million acres of open space in the Pennsylvania Highlands. Safety tips noted for the Backcountry Bowl

In New Hampshire, a Union Leader column, "Outdoors with the AMC," focused on the importance of preparation to ensure a safe and enjoyable spring skiing outing in Mount Washington's legendary Tuckerman Ravine. The article stressed the importance of being aware of such hazards as avalanche, falling ice, undermined snow, and crevasses in the ravine, a famed destination for backcountry skiers in spring.
