PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H.-- Georgia Murray, Air Quality and Watershed Staff Scientist for the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), was recently appointed by Governor John Lynch and the Executive Council to the New Hampshire Air Resources Council.
The council reviews administrative rules proposed to be implemented for all Department of Environmental Services air regulatory programs and adjudicates appeals of air pollution permits. The council also advises DES in the formulation of air policy, development of legislative initiatives, and the planning of public education regarding the function of the Air Resources Division of DES.
Murray holds a master of science degree in earth sciences from the University of New Hampshire. She oversees air quality research for the AMC, working in partnership with NHDES, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Forest Service, and she was lead scientist in the development of the AMC’s Mountain Watch citizen science program.
Prior to her work with AMC, Murray conducted biogeochemical research for the Marine Biological Laboratory’s Ecosystem Center at Toolik, Alaska, and worked at the University of Washington, where she maintained a long-term ecosystem monitoring site in the rainforest within Olympic National Park.
