Yankee Magazine Applauds Innovative Lodge and Learning Center

DUBLIN, N.H. — The Appalachian Mountain Club’s Highland Center at Crawford Notch was selected as an Editors’ Choice in the 2006 edition of the Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England.

“Travelers from far and near know they will experience something special whenever they visit a destination named an Editors’ Choice,” said Michael Carlton, editor of Yankee Magazine and the Travel Guide. “We’re pleased to select the AMC Highland Center at Crawford Notch as an Editors’ Choice in the 2006 edition of the Travel Guide and encourage readers to experience it for themselves. Although diverse, our selections all have one thing in common. These are the places no traveler will want to miss.”

The Highland Center at Crawford Notch is the Appalachian Mountain Club’s newest destination for adventure, learning, and lodging in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. This innovative, four-season lodge and outdoor education center offers a broad range of activities and comfortable accommodations in the heart of the White Mountains. Daily walk-on activities and programs, plus free use of outdoor gear courtesy of L.L. Bean, are all included in a stay at the Highland Center.

The center’s “green” design earned it Environmental Champion status in the New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association’s Sustainable Lodging program, making it the perfect destination for eco-conscious travelers.

The Highland Center is open to all, AMC members and non-members alike. More information on the Highland Center is available at www.outdoors.org/lodging or by calling (603) 466-2727.

“An Editors’ Choice endorsement from Yankee’s Travel Guide to New England is a wonderful honor, and we’re very pleased to see the Highland Center recognized by such an authoritative publication,” said Rob Burbank, public affairs director for the Appalachian Mountain Club.

Trusted as the authority on travel in New England, Yankee’s Travel Guide provides readers with everything they need to plan the perfect day trip, weekend getaway, or vacation, including in-depth feature stories on destinations throughout the region, detailed descriptions of places selected as an Editors’ Choice, maps, a guide to what’s happening in New England this summer, and more.

The 2006 edition of Yankee’s Travel Guide is available wherever magazines are sold in New England, the mid-Atlantic states, and the Midwest.

Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club is the oldest conservation and recreation organization in the United States. With more than 90,000 members in the Northeast and beyond, the nonprofit AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers and trails of the Appalachian region.
