Day to five-night outdoor adventures include free guided activities and getaways under $100

The
Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) is offering summer vacation values for every budget, from free naturalist activities for day trippers to all-inclusive, five-night vacations for a family of four under $1500. Three-night values for two include camping trips under $100, shore-side private cabin retreats in the Maine Woods for $300, and lodge-to-hut hiking under $500. Everyone is welcome, and AMC members receive additional discounts.
AMC outdoor adventure
destinations in New Hampshire, Maine, and New Jersey range from campsites and bunkrooms to private lodge rooms and cabins, with some experiences including amenities such as guided naturalist programs, free loaner outdoor gear, and freshly prepared meals.

Day trips:
Free
- Walk-on summer Outdoor Explorations activities at AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center in New Hampshire’s White Mountains are open to the public and include nature walks and hikes to look for signs of wildlife and explore local trails, naturalist talks, backcountry skills clinics, and nightly evening programs.
- AMC chapter-led activities from Maine to Washington, D.C., including guided walks and hikes, biking, paddling, and family-oriented outings. Search trip listings at www.outdoors.org/tripplanner.

Three-night getaways:
Under $100 for two
- $45 for two people ($15 daily for site) at a Mohican Outdoor Center campsite in New Jersey’s Delaware Water Gap, or only $22.50 per person.
- $72 for up to six people ($24 daily for site) at a Cardigan Reservation campsite in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, or only $12 per person for a full group.
Under $200 for two
- $120 for two adults at Highland Center's Shapleigh Bunkhouse ($44 per person) including buffet breakfast, plus two nights of backcountry camping ($8 per person daily) at AMC’s Ethan Pond and Nauman sites. Peak bag three New Hampshire White Mountain Four-Thousand Footers and skirt designated Wilderness along this challenging and rugged 18.7-mile backpacking loop trip.
Under $300 for two
- $213 for up to 12 people at High Cabin ($71 daily), or less than $18 per person for a full group to stay in the backcountry near the summit of Mt. Cardigan in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region.
Under $500 for two
- $300 for two adults ($50 per person daily) at Medawisla Wilderness Lodge and Cabins in a self-service, private cabin (with a private bath and kitchen) and free use of canoes and kayaks at this shore-side Maine Woods destination. Upgrade to full-service (dinner, breakfast, and trail lunch) for $47 extra per person daily.
- $384 for two adults ($64 per person daily) at the Little Lyford Lodge and Cabins bunkhouse, including breakfasts, trail lunches, and freshly prepared dinners, plus free use of canoes and kayaks to explore remote Maine Woods ponds. Upgrade to a private cabin for $33 extra per person daily.
- $456 for two adults to traverse the White Mountain Northern Presidentials while hiking lodge-to-hut from Joe Dodge Lodge ($60 per person daily) to Lakes of the Clouds Hut and Madison Spring Hut ($84 per person daily). Includes family-style breakfasts and freshly prepared dinners, hut naturalist programs, and above-treeline views.
- $476 for two adults to enjoy lodge amenities at Highland Lodge ($77 per person daily) in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, with one night in the backcountry at easily-accessible, full-service Zealand Falls Hut ($84 per person). Includes family-style breakfasts and dinners, naturalist programs, and free use of L.L. Bean gear.
Five-night vacations:
Under $1300 for two
- $638 for two adults to explore “Notch-to-Notch” in New Hampshire’s White Mountains while spending two nights at Highland Lodge at Crawford Notch ($68 per person daily), two nights at Joe Dodge Lodge at Pinkham Notch ($54 per person daily), and an overnight in the backcountry at AMC’s full-service Carter Notch Hut ($75 per person). Includes family-style breakfasts and dinners, plus naturalist programs.
- $1255 for two adults ($627.50 per person) at AMC 50+ Adventure Camps at Highland Lodge in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Includes amenities such as freshly prepared meals, guided walks and hikes, naturalist programs, social hours, evening programs, and free use of L.L. Bean gear.
Under $1500 for a family of four
- $1480 for a family of four to spend five nights at AMC Family Adventure Camp at lodges in New Hampshire and Maine. Includes accommodations, all meals, guided activities and naturalist programs, and instruction.

Rates are based on non-member adult and child stays. When applicable, rates reflect a 10 percent discount on three-night stays and “stay four nights, get the fifth free” promotion at any combination of New Hampshire and Maine AMC lodges and huts Sunday-Friday nights, and additional exclusions may apply.
