Morale Day on Mount Kearsarge

On Tuesday, July 26th, the Front Desk crew of Pinkham Notch Visitor Center hit the Kearsarge North Trail to blow off some steam on our annual “morale day.” We had a few different options on the table for our day, but decided to go up Mount Kearsarge as only one person in our party had ever hiked it!   We were very curious what it would be like. The date was predetermined earlier in the summer, rain or shine. Luckily, we had the sun shining down on us all day!

We started our adventure from the Kearsarge North trailhead, located on Hurricane Mountain Road. There is a little parking lot on the side of the road, which is only able to fit about ten cars. When we arrived, there were only a few so we knew the mountain wouldn’t be too busy. We hit the trail around 10:45 am, after having to wait for one of our coworkers to stop and get his (late) morning coffee. The trail starts off pretty flat, which was a relief to me personally as I have been hiking nothing but steep and rocky terrain this summer. The mid section was beautiful and slabby but that was short lived as the incline turned sharply upward and then came the rocks!  We all persevered to the summit however for a glorious day, a glorious lunch break, and glorious views!!!  We returned down the same trail and were off for pizza at the Shannon Door in Jackson!!!  What a great break and we’d recommend it now to you all!

If interested, you can find Mt. Kearsarge on the Carter Range/Evans Notch Map #5 and of course the trail description is in the AMC White Mountain Guide!
