Mt. Katahdin in Maine's Northern ForestAs a regional organization, AMC has a long history of bringing together like-minded organizations to secure important legislation or funding to address important conservation issues. AMC’s experience in recreation management, trails stewardship, and mountain ecosystems -- along with its membership of more than 100,000 outdoor enthusiasts, advocates, and supporters -- often complements the expertise of other conservation partners.

Examples of our history in building coalitions includes:

  • Eastern Forest Partnership: The AMC serves as the chair of the Eastern Forest Partnership and helps to coordinate its Mid-Atlantic activities.  The Eastern Forest Partnership was formed in 2000 to provide a focused and unified voice for increased federal investment in eastern forest conservation.

  • Highlands Coalition: This project of the AMC works to coordinate the efforts of national, regional and local conservation organizations and land trusts toward the protection of the federally recognized Highlands region in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
