Community Based Conservation

Community ConservationThe AMC works to involve local communities in its conservation work, as local residents have the best perspective on the long term view of the economic and natural resource needs of their area. AMC uses tools such as participatory Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to help local residents identify natural areas of the greatest natural value.

Examples of this approach include:  

  • AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative: our approach to recreation management, forestry, and conservation have been informed by discussions with town and county leaders in Piscataquis County. Read more >>
