What’s At Stake
Despite strong public support for land conservation, federal funding of land conservation continues to fall short of the needs of our region. In addition, changes in land use and user fees impact public access to natural resources.
What We’re Doing
Land Conservation Funding: AMC advocates for funding to protect special places in the Northeast at the federal and state level.
Public Access and User Fees: AMC seeks to influence polices that can impact public access to wild places.
Trails Advocacy: AMC advocates for funding of riverways and trails at the federal level, as well as recognition of important regional trails.
Land Use Policy: With development pressures threatening large areas of the Northern Forest and Highlands, AMC brings its conservation, recreation, and mapping expertise to bear on regional land use policy discussions:
Energy and Climate Change Policy: Given the important link between air quality and the health of outdoor recreationalists, and climate change on sensitive ecosystems, we work to influence regional and national policy in both areas, and encourage our members and guests to minimize their own energy and carbon impacts.
