Guided Hut to Hut Adventure: Alpine Wildflowers

Welcome to spring in the alpine zone!  Travel between huts with an expert AMC naturalist as your guide.  Spend your first night at one of our lodges and then enjoy two or three days on the trail hiking from hut to hut.  Along the way you'll learn about the exquisite alpine flowers, alpine adaptations, and the differences in alpine plant communities.  

Guided program, lodging, dinner and breakfast are included in the package rate.

Alpine Wildflowers: A Mountain in Bloom at Joe Dodge Lodge

Explore the world above treeline. With an expert AMC naturalist as your guide, we'll drive up Mount Washington Auto Road on Sunday for a hike through the famous Alpine Garden on the mountain's eastern slope.  We'll examine exquisite alpine flowers in bloom, discuss alpine adaptations, and compare alpine plant communities during our moderate to difficult 3-mile hike. 

Dates: June 12-13; June 19-20; and June 26-27, 2010

Package includes meals, lodging, transportation to trailheads, and a copy of AMC Field Guide to New England Alpine Summits. Minimum age for this program is 18 (16 if accompanied by an adult).

Flower Table Talks at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center
Join AMC naturalists and research staff in the courtyard for short informative talks on alpine flowers. Find out which flowers are blooming and where. Staff will explain the latest Mountain Watch initiative in which you can participate during your hike.

Dates: Saturdays in June, weather dependent

June is a wonderful time of year to visit the White Mountains! Join us at the AMC’s Highland Center as we explore the fragile world of alpine plants and flowers during their late spring bloom. Events and activities will include lectures from the foremost experts on high-altitude flora, educational displays, and even guided visits to the tundra-like alpine region of the nearby Presidential Range. You can see plants and flowers that grow in just a small handful of places in the world and discover more about how they adapt to the extreme environment found above treeline. No matter what your sense of adventure, we’re sure you’ll find a way to have fun and learn something new along the way.

Dates: June 4-6; June 18-20; and June 25-27, 2010

Package includes meals, lodging, and access to Highland Center equipment and programs. This weekend is recommended for ages 14+.
