Self-Guided Lodge-to-Hut Adventure: Alpine Flowers in New Hampshire’s Presidential Range
Set your own dates for an early summer self-guided Lodge-to-Hut trek through the uplands of Mt. Washington and see first-hand how this rough and rugged terrain plays host to over 80 species of alpine plants for a few short weeks each year. You’ll spend your first night at Joe Dodge Lodge before hiking up to the Alpine Gardens on one of several trails. Explore the eastern side of the summit cone as you hike to AMC’s Lakes of the Clouds Hut for your second night. Choose from several routes to hike back to Joe Dodge Lodge for your final night, or stay an additional night at Lakes of the Clouds or Mizpah Springs Hut for only $68 more.

Take in the full range of mountain environments as we begin our hike in the northern hardwood forest and eventually climb to the alpine tundra, where tiny flowering plants carpet the mountain ridges. Traversing the southern Presidential Range gives us ample opportunity to explore the ridge in full bloom. Trip leaders include AMC Staff Naturalist Nancy Ritger and AMC Alpine Ecologist Doug Weihrauch.
Guided program, lodging, dinner and breakfast are included in the package rate.

Alpine Garden: A Mountain in Bloom at Joe Dodge Lodge
Explore the world above treeline. With an expert AMC naturalist as your guide, we'll drive up Mount Washington Auto Road on Sunday for a hike through the famous Alpine Garden on the mountain's eastern slope. We'll examine exquisite alpine flowers in bloom, discuss alpine adaptations, and compare alpine plant communities during our moderate to difficult 3-mile hike.

Flower Table Talks at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center
Join AMC naturalists and research staff in the courtyard for short informative talks on alpine flowers. Find out which flowers are blooming and where. Staff will explain the latest Mountain Watch initiative in which you can participate during your hike.

Alpine Wildflowers Welcome Weekend at Highland Center June is a wonderful time of year to visit the White Mountains! Join us at the AMC’s Highland Center as we explore the fragile world of alpine plants and flowers during their late spring bloom. Events and activities will include lectures from the foremost experts on high-altitude flora, educational displays, and even guided visits to the tundra-like alpine region of the nearby Presidential Range. You can see plants and flowers that grow in just a small handful of places in the world and discover more about how they adapt to the extreme environment found above treeline. No matter what your sense of adventure, we’re sure you’ll find a way to have fun and learn something new along the way.
