Maine Woods Adult Spike Crew - 2011 Join one of the two crews based out of Medawisla Wilderness Lodge and Cabins to help build and maintain the new trail system and campsites of the Maine Woods Initiative. No experience is needed because we have the right job for you and the experienced leaders train you. About the Crew: New program for 2011! This is a unique opportunity to help construct remote paddle-in The programs start and end at Medawisla Wilderness Lodge and Cabins. You can arrive at Medawisla anytime after 2:00 p.m. on the Sunday start date of your crew. We have breakfast the next day at 8:00 a.m. then immediately depart for the rest of the week to set up our base camp and start on our campsite construction and trail projects. We spend the week working on the campsite construction and trails and will be tenting out each night. We will work an average of 6-8 hours a day Monday – Thursday. On Friday, after breakfast we will pack up our camp and return to Medawisla, where you will have the rest of the day to explore on your own. All participants will depart after breakfast on the Saturday at the end of the week.
Back at Medawisla there is fly-fishing available on the ponds as well as the outlet of Second Roach Pond. There are plenty of hiking/walking options with opportunities to see wildlife and plants. More paddling on the Roach Ponds is an option as well. Canoes, kayaks, PFDs and paddles are provided. Medawisla has hot showers and has a self-service kitchen the crew will use to prepare meals as a group. The crew lodges in a comfortable bunkhouse, and you provide your own sleeping bag. This is a great opportunity to experience the Maine woods and give something back at the same time.
