Virgin Islands National Park: St. John in the US Virgin Islands
Join the ranks of hundreds of other AMC volunteers who are planning on giving back to the trails this year by being one of the few to take classic AMC trail maintenance mastery to Virgin Islands National Park.  This project is a cooperative venture between the AMC Volunteer Trails Program, Virgin Islands National Park, and Friends of Virgin Islands National Park in a hopeful attempt to rekindle an annual partnership between these organizations.USVI National Park

About the Crew:

Project-related training will be provided by an AMC Volunteer Trails Program Crew Leader, under direction from the National Park. This program is open to all over the age of 18.

Volunteers will basecamp out of Cinnamon Bay Campground on the island of St. John and travel to work locations within Virgin Islands National Park.  Travel will involve up to an hour hike in from the trailhead and carrying heavy loads of 20 to 30 pounds. Crews will work five days during the work week, averaging 4-6 hours per day in the field, with afternoons free for enjoying the Park. Projects may include clearing drainage ditches, brushing back vegetation, out-sloping, general correcting of erosion and erosion problems, moving stone for water bars and embankments or building rock stairs or drainage structures.

Camp Life:

Cinnamon Bay Campground is located on St. John, within Virgin Islands National Park. Tent sites and tents will be provided for all volunteers.  Volunteers will stay in tents with 2 to 4 other participants per tent and will need to bring a sleeping pad and personal sleeping bag, as nights can be cool.  The camp waterfront is excellent for swimming and snorkeling. Deep sea fishing, sailing, mountain bike rentals, sea kayak tours and other activities can be arranged during free time via local businesses.Cinnamon Bay Tents

Family-style meals will be provided for volunteers from dinner on the first day of the crew through breakfast on the last day of the crew.  Breakfast and dinner will be at the Camp and lunches will be packed and eaten on the trail.
