Adopt-a-Crag Day
All are welcome to this yearly event! A cooperative project of AMC and NH State Parks, sponsored by the Access Fund, this workday is dedicated to preserving trails that access climbing routes for future use. Past projects have included building rock steps, trash pickup and cleaning drainages on climbing access trails. Visit www.accessfund.org for information on nationwide events. Appalachian Trail Corridor Monitoring Workshop
Come explore the woods in an out-of-the-ordinary event that will teach participants map and compass and route finding skills. Join the Appalachian Trail Conference and the Appalachian Mountain Club in a workshop to monitor the boundary of Appalachian Trail lands adjacent to the White Mountain National Forest. Volunteers are needed for our Boundary Monitoring Program, but all interested persons are encouraged to attend. Morning classroom session will review map and compass skills and surveyor's maps; the afternoon session will include an off-trail adventure along the AT corridor boundary. If you enjoy being in the woods off-trail, then this is the event for you! This year's details: TBA.
Little Lyford Pond Camps Trail Work Weekends
The AMC Maine Chapter is leading two trips to Little Lyford Pond Camps to help build and maintain the new trail system of the Mine Woods initiative. No experience is needed because we have the right job for you and the experienced leaders to train you. All abilities and efforts are welcomed and appreciated. The volunteer trail crew trips are held over three-day weekends, and participants are encouraged to come for all three nights. Join one, or both, weekend work parties at Little Lyford Pond Camps. Cardigan Lodge Trail Work Weekends
These weekends are sponsored by the Cardigan Trails Committee on the Mount Cardigan Reservation near Bristol, N.H. Working with experienced leaders, volunteers take on projects from basic brushing to advanced rock and wood structures. You don't need to be an expert; training is provided. This is a great way to hike with a purpose and to learn and practice outdoor skills. Dates and more information coming soon!
Mohican Outdoor Center Trail Crew Weekend Work Parties
Come join a friendly, fun, and family-oriented trail crew for one weekend a month in the mid-Atlantic region! The Mohican Trail Crew is an all volunteer weekend crew based out of the Mohican Outdoor Center that is nestled in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DWGNRA) in Blairstown, NJ. The crew is ideal for individuals and families with children 6 years old and up. No experience or special skills required, just a desire to give back to the trails in the DWGNRA in NJ and PA. There are various types of trail maintenance opportunities for everyone. First-timers are welcome! Weekend Work Parties are every second weekend in April - November, except in June. National Trails Day
Join the entire nation for this annual celebration of trails June 7, 2008! Take part in a variety of guided hikes, trail maintenance, and much more! Trails Skills Series
If you would like to gain more trailbuilding skills, join us for one of a variety of hands-on skills sessions and workshops from our Trails Skills Series. Build rock steps or bog bridges, work on an alpine trail, learn chainsaw techniques and more! Instruction, tools, lodging and meals are provided. (Refunds are not available for lodging or meals not taken.)
