Caring for over 350 miles of trails in the White Mountains & Mahoosucs

AMC White Mountain Trail stewardship

AMC has a history of trail building in the White Mountains dating back to 1875-76 when the Lowe’s Path was constructed by a crew of volunteers. Today, through the efforts of our professional trail crew and more than 500 volunteers, AMC maintains over 350 miles of trails in the White Mountain National Forest and Mahoosucs, through cooperative agreements with the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire State Parks, and Maine State Parks. AMC is the primary maintainer of the Appalachian Trail in the White Mountains and maintains 13 backcountry shelter and tentsite locations in the White Mountains and Mahoosucs on or near the Appalachian Trail.

We encourage trail users to consider volunteering for trails or making a gift to the AMC Trails Fund.
