AMC is building an interconnected network of overnight accomodations and trails, all open to the public, which will provide a wide range of outdoor recreation experiences. Two AMC sporting camps, Little Lyford Lodge and Cabins and Medawisla Wilderness Lodge and Cabins, offer private cabins, meals and a comfortable lodge, and serve as hubs for hiking, paddling, wildlife watching, flyfishing, snowshoeing, skiing, or just relaxing. Visitors can enjoy outdoor pursuits around each camp, or ski, hike, dogsled or mountain bike camp-to-camp. A third sporting camp, Gorman Chairback, will open in late 2009.
AMC also offers its self-service Moose Point Cabin on Long Pond, and operates two campsites. AMC chapter volunteers will be building a new backcountry shelter near Trout Pond in Summer 2008. Over time, AMC will add additional backcountry cabin, shelter and tentsite options on its property.
AMC is committed to public access. All trails and ponds within our 37,000-acre Katahdin Iron Works property are open to the public for hiking, paddling, fishing, and hunting. Access is managed through the KI-Jo Mary Multiple Use Forest, and gate fees may apply. We welcome local guides to offer programs on our property and bring guests to our camps.
