What’s At Stake?

The region has seen a widespread trend of converting forests to development, often threatening pristine areas and challenging resource protection efforts. While some areas have slowed the loss of forests and habitats, limited state and federal resources are available to protect and maintain remaining important natural resources.

What We're Doing

  • Protecting Massachusetts forests and increasing recreational opportunities through collaboration with state agencies and the Forests and Parks Partnership, including the current development of the Middlesex Fells Resource Management Plan
  • Enhancing recreational access region-wide by developing the Stewardship Council for the recently-designated New England National Scenic Trail in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
  • Promoting a statewide strategy and legislation for windpower project siting in Massachusetts.
