Success Story
AMC has taken a lead in coordinating the Connecticut River Watershed Blueway initiative with state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other groups from all four watershed states. Kids Fishing Working closely with the Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge and watershed group,s this project will draw deeper connections with the outdoors within the entire Connecticut River watershed, supporting conservation partnerships, and protecting the places people value for outdoor recreation and resource protection. For more information on how you can participate in the Connecticut River Blueway initiative, please contact Mike Gildesgame at the AMC.
What’s At Stake?

The region has seen a widespread trend of converting forests to development, often threatening pristine areas and challenging resource protection efforts. While some areas have slowed the loss of forests and habitats, limited state and federal resources are available to protect and maintain remaining important natural resources.

What We're Doing
  • Collaborating with some 50 state agencies and nonprofits in the four-state Connecticut River watershed to create the Connecticut River Watershed Blueway as part of America's Great Outdoors Initiative with a goal of connecting more people to the outdoors through recreation, environmental education and conservation projects.
  • Supporting the Stewardship Council for the New England National Scenic Trail in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
  • Enhancing close-to-home recreational access regionally by working to complete the Bay Circuit Trail and Greenway which runs for 200 miles from Newburyport to Duxbury through 57 communities around greater Boston.
  • Promoting a statewide strategy and legislation for windpower project siting in Massachusetts.
  • Working with the Land and Water Conservation Fund Coalition to protect our most important forest and recreation areas by seeking full and dedicated federal support for the Fund.
