AMC is very excited to announce that we recently received another challenge grant for $1.5 million! The Richard King Mellon Foundation will award AMC $1.5 million if we raise $3 million in new commitments by the end of 2009.
The R.K. Mellon grant and the challenge to raise an additional $3 million will be a tremendous boost to the Campaign and will bring AMC closer to our vision for the Maine Woods. To have another major, national foundation support the Maine Woods Campaign at this level demonstrates how vital and groundbreaking our work is. The Maine Woods Campaign Committee is focusing its fundraising efforts on gifts of $25,000 or more to meet the challenge. With the generous support of members across the country and the efforts of a dedicated core of volunteers, AMC was able to successfully meet The Kresge Foundation challenge at the end of March.
The R.K. Mellon Foundation is among the largest independent foundations in the United States. It was founded in the 1940s by Richard King Mellon, chairman of Mellon Bank, conservationist, and dominant figure in the financial, industrial, and civic life of Pittsburgh.
The R. K. Mellon Foundation Challenge will have a significant positive impact as we work to connect the protected landscape through the 100-Mile Wilderness in Maine.
