Education and Leadership Training

The AMC teaches people the skills to be safe outdoors and care for the natural world, through outdoor experience and skills programs, and leadership training.

Youth Education Programs
Our staff works with over 40,000 young people each year in our experiential education programs, teaching outdoor skills and building awareness of conservation issues.  Read our fact sheet on AMC's Commitment to Getting Kids Outdoors.

• Teen Wilderness Adventures - guided 5- to 22-day lodge-based and backcountry summer programs
• A Mountain Classroom program for middle schools and high schools
• Youth Opportunities Program for at-risk youth in urban areas

Outdoor Explorations for Adults and Families
AMC Outdoor Explorations are led by our friendly and experienced hut and lodge-based staff. Choose from free walk-on programs or multi-day skills programs. We also offer a variety of guided programs for families and adults 50 and over. Kids also earn a patch through our AMC Jr. Naturalist program.

Leadership Training
We offer comprehensive training for volunteers and professionals looking to lead groups in the backcountry:

Chapter-Led Outdoor Skills Programs
Our local chapters also offer volunteer-led instruction in backpacking, paddling, winter skills, and outdoor leadership.  Under Activities select "Instruction."
