The future of the environment lies in the hands of today's youth. That's why the AMC works with teachers to create hands-on experiences that:
- Give 5th to 12th grade students the opportunity to explore the natural world.
- Complement curriculum goals.
- Address state frameworks.
- Help students learn about complex ecological systems.
- Strengthen students' problem-solving skills and team-building skills.
- Vary in length from a few hours to five days (with four nights in AMC facilities).
- Are taught in the "field" during hikes.
- Offer a low student/teacher ratio. Eight to ten students work with an AMC instructor and a teacher (or chaperone) from their school.
- Allow students to experience the beauty and challenges of wildlands, and are fun!
Program Locations
Students stay at the AMC's New Hampshire huts or lodges, all set in great locations within thousands of acres of protected natural areas. Meals are prepared by a chef and served family-style in a large dining room. Bathrooms in the roadside facilities have hot running water and showers.
