The AMC offers an exciting and comprehensive array of outdoor leadership training programs that focus on specific aspects of outdoor leadership as well as general leadership in the three AMC mission areas: conservation, education, and outdoor recreation.
Current Programs include:
- Mountain Leadership School — Now in its 6th decade year, MLS is held twice each summer. Through intensive, hands-on training, participants learn how to lead safely, effectively, and with minimal impact in the backcountry.
- Leave No Trace — Our five-day Leave No Trace courses are designed especially for people teaching backcountry skills or providing recreation information to the public—trip leaders, camp counselors, outing club leaders, and more.
- Chapter Trainings — Want to become a volunteer trip leader for your chapter? Check back to find the schedule for your next chapter leadership training here.
- YOP — Designed specifically for youth workers who want to learn the skills necessary to lead youth groups on outdoor excursions.
- Major Excursions — Here’s a great opportunity for trip leaders who are ready to take the next step from leading local chapter trips to organizing and leading longer domestic and international excursions.
- WFA and WFR Courses — Want to get your wilderness first aid or wilderness first responder certification? Check out our current course schedule!
