Learn to be a competent trip leader and acquire life-long skills with this challenging and enjoyable experience! The Leadership Training Program provides excellent instruction to older teens on how to manage groups and conflict, travel confidently in the outdoors, and deal with unplanned situations. Many graduates of this program have gone on to work with the AMC in various capacities. Through a continuous 25-day backpacking experience, coupled with initiatives and group discussions, you will focus on gaining the knowledge and experience outdoor leaders need to be successful. You'll plan itineraries, food menus, and equipment as well as learn about judgment, group development, and decision making. An on-the-trail certification in Wilderness First Aid will train you to manage backcountry emergencies. You will have the opportunity to lead the group and deal with group issues and simulated emergencies. This course culminates with the participants planning and executing a small group expedition.
