Workshop: Backpacking Leave No Trace
Date: September 8, 12-14
Location: White Mountains, NH
Backpack through the beautiful White Mountains while learning fun and easy methods for teaching youth about low impact camping skills. This workshop will feature the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for sharing these low impact skills with youth. Transportation, equipment, instruction, outstanding educational materials, and meals are included. This workshop includes a mandatory Monday evening pretrip at 6:30 PM.

Workshop: Wilderness First Aid
Date: September 19-21
Location: Mohican Outdoor Center, NJ
AMC recommends all outdoor leaders have wilderness first aid training - here’s your chance to get this essential certification! Moving beyond urban first aid, you will learn the basics of wilderness medicine from preparation and prevention to assessment and treatment. Includes hands-on practice and classroom instruction. Upon completion, participants receive 16-hour Wilderness First Aid certification. May be used to re-certify a current WFR certification. Food, materials, and lodging at Mohican included.
Outdoor Leadership Training – Camping

Location: Cardigan Lodge, NH
Learn how to lead youth on camping trips and day hikes! The OLT is your first step to becoming a YOP member and receiving the benefits such as free equipment loans and reduced rates at AMC destinations. Choose between the Camping OLT and the Backpacking OLT.

Volunteer Trail Work Day

Location: Boston Area, MA
Workshop: Advanced Backpacking
Date: October 18,22-26
Location: White Mountains, NH
Take your backpacking skills to the next level on this challenging workshop. Participants will be involved in many logistical planning aspects and are responsible for facilitating a trail topic during the workshop. The route is longer than the OLT, we’ll leave our tents behind and sleep under tarps, and the weather may be a significant factor. Space is limited in this workshop and registration takes place through a brief application process. This workshop includes a mandatory Saturday morning pre-trip meeting on October 18 at 9 AM.
Youth Adventure: Halloween Campout

Location: Mohican Outdoor Center, NJ
Spirits come alive at Mohican! Let YOP handle most of the planning and bring your group to Mohican for a campout! We’ll camp right next to Mohican’s beautiful glacial lake in the colorful fall foliage. Enjoy games, a hike to the Catfish Fire Tower, and a campfire cookout with s’mores and storytelling!

Leader Retreat

Get away to the Kittatinny Mountains at Mohican Outdoor Center! This is your opportunity to offer ideas to help YOP serve you and your youth even better! Enjoy this weekend of networking, sharing tools, and planning exciting trips for a new year. We’ll have plenty of time to hike, play games and relax by the fire. Great food and indoor lodging is included. Don’t miss it!

Holiday Gathering & Volunteer Recognition
