June 9-12
Joe Dodge Lodge/Lakes of the Clouds Hut/Mizpah Spring Hut
Welcome to spring in the alpine zone! Enjoy backcountry lodging with traditional mountain hospitality in a spectacular setting. Join us as we discover the wonders of life above treeline in the White Mountains. We will take advantage of the Mount Washington Auto Road where we will be dropped off at treeline. This will give us plenty of time to hike through the Alpine Garden to Lakes of the Clouds Hut. We'll then traverse to the Southern Presidential Range, arriving at Mizpah Spring Hut in time to explore the ridge in full bloom. We will examine the delicate, exquisite alpine flowers, discuss alpine adaptations, and compare alpine plant communities.
This trip involves moderate hiking on steep, rocky terrain. Weather can change quickly and become cold and windy, so be sure to bring extra layers. Participants should also be in good hiking shape and have proper hiking boots.
Minimum age 18 (16 if accompanied by an adult).
