June 15-18
Joe Dodge Lodge/Mizpah Spring Hut/Lakes of the Clouds Hut

Welcome to spring in the alpine zone! Enjoy backcountry lodging with traditional mountain hospitality in a spectacular setting. Join us as we discover the wonders of life above treeline in the White Mountains. We begin our hike ascending the Crawford Path through the hardwood forest dotted with lady slippers and trillium until we hike to the lower reaches of boreal forest and our destination Mizpah Spring Hut. The next day we traverse the southern Presidential Range to Lakes of the Clouds Hut giving us ample opportunity to explore the open ridgeline in full bloom. We will examine the exquisite alpine flowers, discuss alpine adaptations, and compare alpine plant communities. Two nights at the huts will give us ample opportunity to examine the delicately exquisite alpine flowers, discuss alpine adaptations, and compare alpine communities.

This trip involves moderate hiking on steep, rocky terrain. Weather can change quickly and become cold and windy, so be sure to bring extra layers. Participants should also be in good hiking shape and have proper hiking boots.
