National Ski Patrol Level I Avalanche

This course offers essential information for winter hikers, skiers, and mountaineers who are aware of avalanche hazards in the winter backcountry and want to know how to evaluate and avoid them. On day one, you'll receive the full National Ski Patrol Level 1 Avalanche Course, focusing on avalanche characteristics, mechanics, basic forecasting, safe travel, decision making, avalanche beacons, and search and rescue. On day two, we'll spend time in Tuckerman Ravine (conditions permitting) evaluating snow characteristics and stability and discussing terrain analysis and route selection in an actual avalanche-prone area. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an official National Ski Patrol course credential. Instruction-only prices are available upon request.
