Highland Lodge to Lonesome Lake Hut
This Guided adventure will focus on staying warm in winter, building snowshoe techniques, and learning about the winter ecology of the Franconia Range. As the group ventures through the forest from the Highland Center to the Lonesome Lake Hut, we’ll explore the winter habitats of the plants and animals that inhabit the range, listening for wintertime birds, following animal tracks, and considering strategies for winter survival. We’ll incorporate a discussion on snowshoe and winter warmth techniques as we make our way through the forest. After a day of exploration we’ll enjoy hot cocoa and warm up by the woodstove.
No winter experience is necessary, but this program is recommended for children ages 9 and up. Package includes meals, lodging, transportation, instruction, guides, and complimentary L.L. Bean Gear use.
