Introduction to Mountaineering Skills and Ice School

This two-day course is a comprehensive introduction to basic winter mountaineering skills that combines roped ice and snow climbing. Instruction takes place on the eastern flanks of Mount Washington, a diverse and challenging terrain that is perfectly suited for this course.

You’ll focus on learning and refining winter mountaineering skills and how to efficiently climb moderate snow and ice terrain. You’ll practice using your crampons and ice axe properly, avalanche hazard awareness, route selection, decision making in adverse conditions, and more. The course outline is dependent on weather, ground conditions, and participants’ abilities. Instruction-only prices available upon request.

No previous experience is required, but participants should be prepared for a challenging experience. 

Minimum age is 18 (16 if accompanied by an adult).
