Introduction to Winter Mountaineering

January 18-21; February 21-24
Joe Dodge Lodge at Pinkham Notch

Want to become a more experienced and responsible winter mountaineer? We’ll show you how. This three-day course combines roped ice and snow climbing with an evening of camping in the White Mountains. We focus on providing you with the technical skills required to move safely and confidently over winter terrain.

The course outline is flexible; weather conditions and the abilities of the participants are taken into account. You'll learn how to use crampons, an ice axe, glissading, self arrest, snow and ice anchoring, and avalanche awareness. Weather permitting, we'll summit Mount Washington on day three. We provide all technical gear from International Mountain Equipment. Instruction-only prices available upon request.

No previous climbing experience is required for registration but participants should be prepared for a challenging experience.

Minimum age 18 (16 if accompanied by an adult).
