Completed in 1932 along with Galehead as part of legendary hut master Joe Dodge’s plan to make all of the huts a day’s hike apart.
Was the only hut of the Western Division to be kept open as usual during World War II. However, the war did nothing to slow down business—1945 was the busiest summer Zealand had had until then.
Opened for the winter beginning in 1973.
Had a mini-hydroelectric plant installed in 1982 to help reduce reliance on propane.
