New Years Full Moon Snowshoe Weekend
December 31-January 3 at Medawisla
Celebrate the New Year in the Maine Wilderness! On New Year’s Eve, we’ll enjoy a BYOB social hour followed by a Maine Special Dinner, featuring local specialties. After dinner, we’ll enjoy a moonlight snowshoe trek around Second Roach Pond where we’ll listen for owls, before heading back to the lodge for a bonfire. We’ll spend New Year’s day snowshoeing to the top of Trout Mountain for views of the surrounding mountains, including Maine’s famous Mt. Katahdin. On the final day we’ll have time for more snowshoeing and relaxing in the scenic Maine Woods.

During this exciting weekend, you’ll learn about evaluating weather, how to build several types of snow shelters, and how to start and keep a fire going in harsh conditions. You’ll also practice land navigation, winter safety, and more. On the final day we’ll compete in a treasure hunt to practice our geocaching skills.

3-and 5-Night Self-Guided Lodge-to-Lodge Skiing Adventures

Lodge-to-Lodge cross-country skiing between full-service lodges offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and remoteness of the Maine Woods. Our trail network allows you to ski from AMC’s Medawisla Wilderness Lodges to partner West Branch Pond Camps, and on to AMC’s Little Lyford Lodge and Cabins. At each stop, you can enjoy a comfortable lodge for relaxing and meeting other guests, a home-cooked dinner and breakfast, trail lunch, and your own private cabin with wood stove.
Terrain is moderate, and trails are packed but not groomed. Skiing between lodges allows you to travel light – AMC provides gear shuttling from lodge-to-lodge. The AMC will also arrange for our partner, Northwoods Outfitters, to drop you off at your starting point and pick you up at the end and return you to Greenville.
We offer both 3-night and 5-night lodge-to-lodge skiing options. Packages include meals, lodging and gear shuttling. AMC member prices start at $420 for a 3-night adventure and $555 for a 5-night adventure, non member prices start at $456 for 3-nights and $619 for 5-nights. Saturday night stay and taxes are extra.

This guided back country ski trek is the perfect way to experience the beauty of the Maine Woods in winter. With four-night and two-night options, you’ll be able to explore AMC’s trails in the 100-Mile Maine Wilderness with the help of an experienced guide.

Registered Maine Guide Alexandria Conover will share her years of experience with the natural world with you this weekend as she teaches you how to enjoy the special craft of making mukluks – a traditional soft boot worn in cold climates. This weekend also includes a guided moonlight snowshoe hike with Alexandria where she’ll share her outlook on the spiritual aspects of nature.
