AMC’s Mohican Outdoor Center in the Delaware Water Gap is pleased to offer a series of volunteer-led "Weekend Getaways." These weekends are designed to provide AMC members with an opportunity to join with fellow outdoor enthusiasts in adventures such as hiking, biking, paddling and just plain relaxing. Some will also feature specific themes for the weekend, such as Irish dancing or digital outdoor photography. Each weekend event will be hosted by an AMC volunteer and will run from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Rates for the weekend, including lodging, two breakfasts and Saturday dinner, start at just $95.
Here is the upcoming schedule of Mohican Weekend Getaways:
Fri.-Sun., May 2-4. Fly-fishing at Mohican. Knowing the ecology of the rivers and streams you are fishing makes your fishing more successful and enjoyable. In this weekend of discussions, field time (conditions permitting) and observations we will cover a wide variety of ecological concepts and develop skills for putting the information covered into practice. We will spend time discussing and observing the trees, in-stream and streamside plants and animals that have an effect on your fishing success and learn to identify the behaviors of birds, spiders, insects and fish – which helps to determine proper fly choice. We will also explore seasonal differences, temperature regimes, diurnal rhythms and the effects of weather. Finally, we will discuss and practice river-reading skills, increase your wading safety and sharpen your ability to locate fish. Instructor(s): Caren Samuels is an environmental educator, fly-fishing instructor, New York State certified teacher and New York State licensed guide. Course Cost: $185 – member, $205 - nonmember.
