Maine Fly-Fishing at AMC’s Medawisla Wilderness Camps and Little Lyford Pond Camps

Fly-fishing on 2nd West Branch Pond. Photo: Jerry and Marcy MonkmanPeak season for fly-fishing in the Maine Woods is during the cooler days of May, June, and September. Native brookies are plentiful in the ponds and rivers near AMC’s Maine Woods sporting camps. AMC’s full-service Little Lyford Pond Camps and full or self-service Medawisla Wilderness Camps are popular staging sites for fly-fishing adventures, as is AMC’s self-service Moose Point Cabin on the southern shore of Long Pond.

There is easy access to stream fishing on the West Branch of the Pleasant River, or anglers can take to the water in canoes available to guests on more than ten ponds.

AMC will be partnering this season with several local Registered Maine Guides, who can offer lessons to beginners or guide seasoned anglers to some of the best fishing spots near each camp. Rates can run from $225 to $300 for a half-day, small group session to $375 to $450 for a full day, depending on the guide and specific services required. Drift boat fishing on the East Branch of the Kennebec and West Branch of the Penobscot, and wade fishing on the Roach River, are some of the possibilities.

Contact one of the following Maine Guide services directly, and mention you are staying with AMC at Little Lyford Pond Camps or Medawisla Wilderness Camps. Guides are very busy during peak fishing season, so book as early as possible. Most guides also offer additional options such as wildlife photography trips and moose safaris.
