Photo by Jerry Monkman.Design your own White Mountain adventure led by an experienced AMC guide! Our custom adventures offer more flexibility and a wider range of options than our free and guided group programs. You pick the activity, time, and skill level that are right for you. Our custom adventures are great for individuals, families, and groups.

Custom adventures are based out of AMC's Highland Center and Joe Dodge Lodge and must be reserved 14 days in advance, and are open to guests as well as the general public. Here are some of the possibilities:

1-2 Hour Skills and Nature Programs (view rates and requirements)

  • Snowshoe clinics
  • Snow shelter building
  • Winter ecology 
  • Map & compass 101 
  • Nordic ski clinics 
  • Team building  
  • GPS orienteering

Half-Day Adventures  (view rates and requirements)

  • Hike/snowshoe Lost Pond (1 mile, 2 hours)
  • Hike/snowshoe Liebskin’s Loop (3.5 miles, 3-4 hours) 
  • Hike/snowshoe Mt. Avalon (3.6 miles, 4-5 hours)
  • Nordic ski tours at Great Glen Trails or Bretton Woods (up to 6 miles and 3 hours)

Full-Day Adventures (view rates and requirements)

  • Snowshoe to Tuckerman Ravine (5 miles, 5-8 hours)
  • Hike/snowshoe Mt. Pierce (6.2 miles, 6-7 hours)
  • Hike/snowshoe Mt. Webster and Mt. Jackson (6.5 miles, 5-7 hours)
  • Backcountry ski and snowboard John Sherburne Ski Trail   
  • Snowshoe from Old Jackson Road trailhead to AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center

Overnight Adventures (view rates and requirements)

  • Lodge to Hut snowshoe trip – Joe Dodge Lodge to Carter Notch Hut  
  • Lodge to Hut ski trip – Highland Center to Zealand Falls Hut
  • Lodge to Hut hiking trip - Highland Center to Mizpah Spring Hut

All custom guided adventures include:

  • Leadership by an outdoor professional with training in wilderness medicine, outdoor skills, and natural history.
  • A pre-trip meeting covering outdoor safety, the ten essentials for safe hiking, and a gear check.
  • An introduction to Leave No Trace backcountry ethics.
  • Natural history interpretation of flora and fauna encountered on the trip.
  • (Highland Center only) Free use of equipment and outdoor clothing from L.L.Bean Gear Room.
