- Hiking. Sign up for White Mountain Guide and view the trails around the huts for free! With a paid subscription, you can see detailed trail descriptions, do route finding, download a route to GPS, and more. Our knowledgeable can also assist with local conditions, trip planning.

- Lonesome Lake: Around-Lonesome-Lake Trail (30 minutes); North Kinsman Mtn.(4,293 feet) (4 hours); Cannon Mountain (4,100 feet) (4 hours)
- Greenleaf: Mt. Lafayette (5,260 feet) (2 hours)
- Galehead: Galehead Mountain (4.024 feet) (1 hour)
- Zealand Falls: Thoreau Falls (3 hours); Zeacliff (2 hours); Mt Hale (2 hours)
- Mizpah Spring: Mt. Pierce (4,310 feet) (1 hour); Mt. Jackson (4,052 feet) (2 hours)
- Lakes of the Clouds: Mt. Washington (6,288 feet) and the Alpine Garden (3 hours); Mt. Monroe (45 minutes)
- Madison Spring: Mt. Madison (5,367 feet) (1.5 hours); Mt. Adams (5,744 feet) via Star Lake (1.5 hours)
- Carter Notch: Carter Dome (4,832 feet) (3 hours); Wildcat Mtn. (4,422 feet) (2 hours)
- Swimming and Wading: cool off at Lonesome Lake and the small Carter Lakes, or in the waterfalls at Zealand Hut

Fishing: both the remote Lonesome Lake and the Carter Lakes are periodically stocked with Eastern Brook Trout – NH Fishing License required

Jr. Naturalist Program for Kids – kids staying at the huts have a chance to earn a Jr. Naturalist patch and be recognized by our hut crew by completing activities in the Jr. Naturalist workbook

Volunteer as a “citizen scientist” for Mountain Watch: contribute to our understanding of climate change by picking up a kit at any hut and making observations about alpine flowers and visibility along the trail! Learn more>>
Winter/Spring (Self-Service Season)
- Backcountry skiing and snowshoeing: Lonesome Lake, Zealand Falls, and Carter Notch huts are open in winter during caretaker season. Lonesome and Carter are best with snowshoes; Zealand offers a relatively flat access road and trail in winter. Learn more about huts in winter>>
