Hike through breathtaking scenery on one of NH's many outdoor trails.

A New Hampshire hiking vacation offers an amazing variety of outdoor experiences. Scale a demanding 4000-foot peak, follow the tree line on a segment of the Appalachian Trail, or take a leisurely walk along the more level trails of New Hampshire's popular Lakes Region. Whichever hike you choose, you'll enjoy the best that New Hampshire's natural habitat has to offer.

New Hampshire is just a few hours' drive from the metropolitan areas of New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Montreal, a fact that largely explains its popularity as a vacation spot. The AMC was founded more than a century ago with the region's popularity in mind; the hiking club combines its determination to protect the wilderness areas of the Northeast, including New Hampshire, with a recognition of the value of the region as a recreational area.

The Club's twelve chapters offer more than 8,000 outdoor trips each year throughout the Northeast; the New Hampshire chapter offers its own activities, as well as volunteering its members' time helping to maintain the many miles of hiking trails in the state.

Choose a guided New Hampshire hiking trip, or plan your own.

If you would prefer to let an expert plan your vacation trip and worry about lodging, food, and schedules for you, opt for one of our many guided hiking trips offered in New Hampshire. If you're an experienced hiker yourself and would rather plan your own adventure, you can still use AMC assistance, whether you stay in one of our lodging accommodations, consult our hiking guides and maps, or ask the staff at one of our visitor centers for advice on hiking trails, weather conditions, and safety and gear.

New Hampshire's hiking mecca — the White Mountains

Some of the most exciting hiking trails in New Hampshire exist in the White Mountains, both along the Appalachian Trail and throughout the region. Single-day hikes are perfect for the hiker wanting a short adventure, but the many overnight accommodations available in the White Mountains make multi-day hikes an easy choice as well. Full-service lodges like the Highland Lodge in Crawford Notch and Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch offer comfortable beds, delicious family-style meals, and common living areas, while other accommodations, like our mountain huts offer a more rustic experience.

Our lodging accommodations and our many guided trips are open to the public, but with an Appalachian Mountain Club membership you will receive other benefits, including valuable discounts, access to chapter activities, and an opportunity to volunteer for projects designed to protect and maintain the state's wilderness areas. Join now, and begin to plan your next hiking adventure in New Hampshire.
