Lodge-to-Hut Adventures

Classic Lodge-to-Hut Trips

Our classic Lodge-to-Hut Trips offer a taste of backcountry adventure with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the flora and fauna of the White Mountains.

Led by experienced and knowledgeable AMC guides, each program offers opportunities to hike, snowshoe, and ski with other active outdoorspeople, and explore the natural and cultural history of the region and AMC's Hut network.

Accommodations

Lodges

AMC Lodges offer shared bunkrooms with shared baths with hot showers. Linens and towels are provided. Meals are served family style. A living room and library are available at our lodges for socializing, reading, or relaxing. Both lodges have retail areas offering maps, guidebooks, snacks, souvenir items, and ten essentials.

Huts

AMC Huts are "off the grid" locations situated above or near treeline, or at lower elevations near a lake or waterfall. Each offers coed bunkrooms, and separate bathrooms with cold running water. A pillow and blankets are provided; guests bring their own sheets or sleeping bag. Dinner and breakfast are served family style; guests should bring their own lunch.

Level of Difficulty

Many of these adventures traverse a full range of mountain environments from the tundra, and boreal forest at elevation and finally the northern hardwood forest in the valley. Changeable weather is the name of the game in the White Mountains. Participants need to be prepared for all possibilities including sun, rain, cold and wind. Participants should be in good hiking or skiing shape and able to hike/ski up to six hours in a day, have proper hiking/ski boots and clothing and be prepared for alpine conditions and weather.

Review the detailed description of each individual adventure, including itinerary, mileage, and elevation gain.

If you have any questions about which program is right for your interests and abilities, please call us and we'll connect you to program staff. A complete safety and equipment list will be provided at registration time.

A breakfast buffet, trail lunch, and family-style dinner, including home-baked bread, soup, salad, entree, and dessert are included with your guided program package. Please notify us during registration of any special dietary requirements. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets, and most food allergies, with advance notice.

Testimonials

“It was fabulous, Guides were extraordinary. They are upbeat, fun, knowledgeable, experienced and excellent communicators.”

Leocadia, Lodge-to-Hut participant
2013

"The hike was well-chosen to feature not just interesting alpine wildflowers but lichen, birds, and animals. I expected knowledgeable guides and AMC guides were exactly that. They also had excellent "people skills" and interacted well with each other and all the group members. They were pleasant to travel with, and they easily accommodated the different hiking abilities of the group members."

Deborah Spears, Lodge-to-Hut participant
(2012)

"All of the instructors were fantastic with people - really and truly fantastic. Made everyone feel welcome and at ease. Bravo to all. They were experts in leading outdoor trips. Leaders' knowledge of birds and other aspects of the environment were shared with a lovely sense of awe and wonder."
