Updates to Published AMC Books
From time to time, information covered in our books may change in the field. For example, a trail may be relocated. Since a new edition of the book may not be immediately available, this page will regularly offer updates to our most popular AMC books. Much of the land surrounding the ponds is private property, and those hoping to canoe or kayak in the area do not have permission to access these waterways via private property. Until we are able to verify the correct access point on public land, the AMC strongly suggests our readers conduct their outdoor activities in other areas. | | | | Maine Mountain Guide, 8th Edition; posted May 10, 2005. Page 221, Cook Hill: No access permitted without permission. The landowner requests that hikers refrain from following the route described to the summit of Cook Hill, unless permission has been granted. This information has been removed from the Maine Mountain Guide, 9th Edition, which releases this month (May 2005). For copies of this updated and expanded edition, go to www.outdoors.org/amcstore or call 800-262-4455. The AMC earnestly requests that hikers please be respectful while on private land and to note that some landowners require permission. Hikers should also keep in mind that land ownership does change and trails that were previously open to the public may have been closed. The AMC appreciates landowners' willingness to allow public access. | | | | AMC White Mountain Guide; posted July 27, 2004. -

At 1.0 mi. it crosses the first of two bridges over tributary brooks. After the second bridge it climbs steadily and swings right to meet the Arethusa-Ripley Falls Trail, 0.2 mi. above Arethusa Falls. Turn left to descent to the falls.” New trail distance summary: Distance from Arethusa Falls parking area (1,240’) to Arethusa-Ripley Falls Trail (2,120’): 1.3 mi.
