Last fall, AMC archivist Martha Moore discovered several small paintings in the AMC library signed by Victor J.A. Martineck. She learned through New York's Museum of the Hudson Highlands that Martineck, who died in 1991, spent much of the 20th century making frequent trips from his home in Manhattan to a cabin in a state forest about an hour north. He spent days and weeks there alone, capturing his favorite scenes. Moore's find shows that he also worked in the White Mountains, though little is known about the details of his visits. Some of the paintings in AMC's collection are below.
