Years in the Huts: 2007-10

What can a guest in your hut expect? As is true with all hut kids, my croo and I carry ourselves with enthusiasm because we know we have every reason and every resource to ensure our guests' stay with us is fulfilling, informative, and super fun.

Can you describe your job? Our job is one part cook, one part pack animal, another part host, add in a dash of experienced hiker and naturalist and there you have it. Our job is to enjoy the mountains, and help others do the same.

What brings you back to the huts this summer? I come back to the mountains every year for the wonderful people and the great atmosphere.

Years in the huts: 2006-10

Can you describe your job? It is our responsibility to share these mountains with all people who choose to visit [and] we have the ability to be incredibly influential, whether it is through a naturalist program, a green technology tour, speaking to people at the desk or on the trail, or even in a blanket-folding demonstration.

What can a guest in your hut expect? Our guests can expect a croo that loves doing their job. This translates into enthusiasm for interacting with our guests, fantastic meals, and the continuation of the long-established traditions of hut croos past. The latch string is always out.

Years in the Huts: 2007-10

What can a guest in your hut expect? All I wish for a guest to the huts to be able to do is relax and enjoy themselves; if they learn something in the process and get to think about their role in the wider world, all the better, but it’s not required.

Madison Spring Hut

Elizabeth WasteElizabeth Waste

Years in the Huts: 2008-10

What brings you back to the huts this summer? I come back for the community. We work hard and play hard and as a result we become very close. You’d be hardpressed to find any other group of people who love their jobs as much as we love working in the huts.

Carter Notch Hut

Miles Howard Miles Howard

Years in the Huts: 2007-10

Can you describe your job? I wake up with the birds, give exciting programs on wildlife and conservation, practice for my degree in Baroque dance, sell chic mountain apparel, provide quality medical assistance when necessary, and cook everything from coffee cake to bockwurst mit sauerbraten. And I love every minute of it.
