Exploring a BogThe spongy, acidic environment of bogs is home to mosses, lichens, and even carnivorous plants. In this video, AMC Senior Interpretive Naturalist Nancy Ritger takes us on a tour of the wetlands near AMC's Lonesome Lake Hut. This area, located in Franconia Notch State Park in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, is not technically considered to be a bog due to its natural drainage. Still, bog plants are abundant. To learn more about bogs, read "Beauty and the Bog", or check out a list of bogs to visit in "Get Bogged Down", both appearing in the July/August 2010 issue of AMC Outdoors. |
